A Story of Literally an Hour.

"The Story of an Hour" by "Kate Chopin" is a story with taste of melancholy imbued with a feeling of  happiness. I was thinking that Mrs Mallard's story was more akin to a tragedy because of the death of Mr. Mallard and sudden death of Mrs. Mallard. However upon rereading the story again, I realized that Mrs.Mallard died happy. Even though Mrs. Mallard died ironically from thinking of the future, she was happy on her final moments, therefore I believe that she found salvation before dying. Even if the future she was fantasizing about would never become reality.

Another personal take on the story is that Mrs. Mallard saw an Eldritch horror which caused her to go insane with joy thus causing her death.

  1. Thats an interesting take on the story I didn't think Mrs. Mallard could have possibly died with a sense of joy till you mentioned it. When reading at first I thought that she was in such shock and agony from seeing Mr. Mallard alive that it caused her to die. But I really like your take on the story.

  2. I defiantly had to read the story a few times. Each time I would come up with a different take on how she felt when she died or how it seemed. Your thought about the way she felt makes a lot of sense. I did think that even though she was shocked, she was happy but wouldn't know what to do or how to live her life after his passing.
